Faith to Keep Treading On
Each morn awakens with glorious light, formerly set and hidden
Grace is poured out, despite actions done that were forbidden
A rose down-trodden, still with enough fight to arise
When the elements could have caused it to wither, still it will survive, o what a surprise
The caged bird still sings to the heavens
Her songs give hope that there is a transcendental force which leavens
I fall and get up
I don’t listen to the voice that tells me to stop
I have a spirit in me
One of excellence and all I could ever pray to be
One that teaches me holiness, love, and perseverance
To keep trudging the mile, moving forward despite the distance
The first breath longed for after being submerged in the ocean
The solid foundation necessary for grounding after being in dizzying motion
The tenacity to keep going even when a dream is deferred
Knowing that greatness likes ahead, and need not be spurred
I have a faith that with good works, that creates wonders and miracles
In this sometimes gloomy world, with eyesores and spectacles
A world so cold, it could dispirit a soul so bold
But not those with the faith
That washes believers clean of sin and wraith
Binds them with a shield and sword
Ready for defense and offense, ascertained from the word
That fills a heart of stone, with a love that softens
That heals, and restores, omnipresent without conditions ever, not just often
This love gives me hope
Not to be clean as a pope
But to reach an elevation without the fleeting feeling of a drop
And the falling only comes from my heart meeting love with the sound of a plop
Doused in sweet honey, oils, and perfumes, and warming citrus
Radiant rays of the sun parading the earth,
Bringing forth a new birth
This hope kept people marching for what is right
Whether it’s a new home for which they took flight
This hope keeps the darkest things alight
