Fake Happy (Inspired by Paramore)

“We’re all so fake happy”

We all just like to pretend,

That the world can never see the emotions we hide within.

We walk around with smiles that don’t match our eyes.

Our photos on social media tell a bunch of lies.

What will it take to make society real?

Can we become humans that allow each other to feel?

Or will we continue to wear a mask,

Of gender roles and expectations that society continues to task?

I want to see a day where I can look someone in the eyes,

Without having to hide my tears because I’m not okay inside.

To know that I’m not alone and feel some sympathy,

From other people who face the same pain as me.

I want to see men teaching use of emotion to little boys.

And young girls growing up realizing that they do have a voice.

So hopefully one day we can all stop pretending.

And our happiness can become something authentic and never ending.
