Fake Memories

I saw your hand around my waist,
your eyes staring at me
with a kind of sticky chocolate hold
that captivates me—holds me frozen in time.

Your lips part as you spit,
the three most poisonous words
any guy can tell a girl.
I swallow them and hold them in my throat.

Those words were my life saver,
every word you say in that sickly sweet
and raspy voice not only rips me apart
but fuels my desire for pain.

I saw all of this in my mind as you sat near me
never knowing I was deeply in love with you
deeply in love with a memory
that never happened and never would.
