The Fall

I love beautiful things

Never, maybe once, but never now am I ashamed to say this

I love everything about watching people simply slip and fall

Looking around nervously for onlookers stares

Fall!  Won’t you please fall

Splat face first into the ground

But don’t stop there

Go through it and keep falling

The falling never ends

On your way down, get a cone and fill it with ice cream of every flavor

Stop at the raspberry field and break apart each individual berry seed

Throw it!  Raspberry confetti everywhere!
It’s a party but no one’s invited except everyone wants to come

The party’s over, but you’re still falling

It’s raining CDs!

Pick one up, spin it fast, and it will sing

The music dies as I keep falling

How can I still be falling?

I suppose it doesn’t matter

I want to drink purple lemonade and lay on a sidewalk

I want to sing the Star Spangled Banner in Canada at a wedding I wasn’t invited to

I want to dance on a roof during a thunderstorm as it rains CDs once again

I want to climb the tallest tree then leap off of it into the air

And then I want to fall

I want to fall from the top of the tree to the ground

When I reach the ground

I want to fall through it

I want to keep falling because falling is fun

Maybe I will reach a point where I stop falling

Maybe I won’t

Maybe I just confused you even more

Or maybe you will come fall with me

Maybe we will never reach the bottom

Maybe we will

Maybe I don’t want to reach the bottom and maybe you don’t either

How about we just get ice cream instead

And dance on a roof during a thunderstorm while it rains CDs and they sing as they too fall

How about we roll around in the raspberry confetti and get pink stains all over our white clothes

How about you take a black marker and connect the dots of pink stains all over my body and see where it ends

How about you get frustrated because you don’t know where it begins

How about I tell you, neither do I

That is when you look at me

And I look at you

And we both look at the pink stains and black lines with an unknown beginning and an unknown end

And we laugh

We laugh hard and it echoes through the space we fall through

We realize that it doesn’t matter where the line begins and it doesn’t matter where it ends

We realize that ice cream tastes better when you’re falling

And that raspberry confetti only exists when someone is willing to fall

We realize that it will never rain CDs and they will never sing if they can’t fall with us

That is when we realize we want to fall

To keep falling and stop worrying when we will hit the ground

That is when we think we are so profound

But just as we think we are so profound

We hit the ground

You slam into a pile of raspberry confetti

I slam onto the sidewalk

Next to me, purple lemonade

I lay there, on the sidewalk

Sun on my face lemonade by my side

And I think, this is nice

And you think, more pink stains

I ask if you still have that marker

You say I lost it when we fell

I say, we should probably find it

You agree

Once again

We fall.
