Fall

are these

barren trees

as placid as

i?

he asks.

sullen.

i stare--

the logs

are broken,

twisting.

no.

why?

my heart,

is it

apathetic to

love yet?

these questions.

a leaf falls.

in what

life are

you compelled

to ask?

i retort,

blindly.

in a world

where the

skies are

marred by

sickly trees

pining for

release. pining

for death.

calling, as

winter comes.

why must

we wait?

why must

we wait

for spring to

come to

feel warmth?

to breathe?

look at the

sun, i reply.

watch how

it glows.

a leaf falls.

see how it knows.
