The Fall
Isn't it amazing to watch a baby take their first steps? They fall a lot, but they always get back up. I fall a lot too, every day in fact. You may be thinking it a little strange for a person of my age to fall everyday, maybe you think I need some professional help. Well I do need help but I don't fall physically, I mean spiritually. No matter how hard I try to put one step in front of the other, I just can't seem to make it very far. It hurts when I fall and I feel as though I have failed. I have scars from previous incidents that are a constant reminder. Sometimes in the midst of these thoughts, I stay fallen for a while. Lying on the ground in my self-pity is when it hits me. If babies never got back up, then no matter how old us humans got we would still be crawling around. A very elementary realization but a very true one. No matter how many times I fall spiritually, if I don't get back up then I will never get to where I need to be with God. God is my professional help, His service is free too but I have to get to Him first. It doesn't matter if I fall, or how many times I fall even. What matters is if I choose to get back up. It doesn't matter if I look like a bloody, tangled up mess because if I am up, I'm doing just fine. You know, Jesus fell too. He was beaten within an inch of death then handed an enormous cross to carry all the way to that dreadful hill. He was tired, bleeding, battered, and bruised, and under the weight of that old rugged cross, He fell. See, in the light of what He did when He got up, His fall fades in comparison. When He got up, He was a bloody, tangled up mess, but He crawled up on that cross for our sorry souls. He hung there as the faces of every person that was, is, and will be flashed before His face. As He watched every beautiful and evil thing that would ever take place, He stood up in one final breath, and fell into the darkness of death that we might have a chance at life. He fell again as the guards yanked His precious, lifeless body off the cross, but three days later, He got back up in victory over death! We as humans fall, we just can't help that, but we can decide if we get back up or not. We can choose to lay fallen in pity, despair, and doubt, or we can get up and get one step closer to our sweet Jesus! Tell me, will you get back up?
