Falling in love with love

I fell in love with an idea
Every time that I'd see ya
My heart would skip a beat and
Just when our eyes would meet
I'd fall a little more in love

But it never happened to be true
This whim between me and you
We had an imaginary romance
A make-believe paired dance
Where I'd fall a little more in love

Then you found yourself the real deal
I guess I should just retreat and heal
My broken bits were stuck
Couldn't imagine I'd be so dumb-struck
I fell a little too far in love

It shouldn't hurt this much to lose
A heart I never owned to choose
Me over the rest of the world
How could I have seen this unfurled
I fell so very hard in love

So I've lost nothing really mine
An common idea of its kind
Leaving me the way it came
Weighing me down with little shame
Next idea, I won't fall so much in love
