Falling Out of Love

Falling out of love is one of the worst things that can unfold.

It’s worse than cheating or lying because it hurts more, it’s something that cannot be controlled.

Slowly the memories of amazing times disappear from the mind.

Differences stand out more, date nights become blind.

Conversations become shorter, longer the tears will fall,

Love’s once study voice silently becomes small

If only she had tried to make a new connection,

Then the other wouldn’t be heading in the wrong direction.

They could start where love was left off,

Like a plane, it would take off.

Because the love between the two is assured,

And in a few days be secured.

But it’s left in the dust, wondering what it did wrong

Wonder of where the tenderness that was shared is replaced by a lone cricket at night

While comfort is stolen from an old teddy bear, insisting that it’ll be alright.

The optimism remains, ever strong, hoping, praying that the other will trip and fall back in love.

But in the same motion, the love that once was is fleeing like a dove.

She tries to run after it, her lost love to claim,

But a cold glance extinguishes the last kindled flame.

Denial washes over before truth can proceed,

Her love is lost but that’s what she needed.

But it’s left in the dust, wondering what it did wrong

Knowledge of what’s happen is evident, that the true feelings will never return.

Sympathy knocks loud as a drum, feelings only felt is that of concern.

Wishing for that love once again, but also knowing that it would never be the same.

So eventually love ends and is gone, there is but one to blame.

But her love is still there, wanting to belong,

But it’s left in the dust, wondering what the hell it did wrong.
