Falling Towards The Sun

Stranded, where only the faintest remnants of her touch reach my skin.

Both of us locked in a battle of always straining and never arriving at each other.

I resolve to find her, to reach her.

I resolve to know her in a way that no mortal ever has for when she brushes her fingers across my cheek I feel nothing but light.

Nothing but warmth.

I stretch out my hand to her, but she is always just out of reach.

She hangs in my sky, my earth revolving around her.

I know what I must do, and yet I falter in confidence. I know that I must trust her, and yet I cannot bring myself to take the leap.

I stand on a precipice between fire and water.

I hold out my hands, urging her to pull me closer. To reach out and wrap herself around me so that I may feel the entirety of her warmth.

I am soaring, my arms outstretched and feathered, searching for her.

I can feel her presence, her all encompassing light as it presses into my skin.

I can feel her warmth radiate through my bones, hearing me from the inside out.

I can feel the tendrils of her beings wrapping around my limbs and pulling me ever closer.

As I rise through the air, my skin white hot against the inferno of her touch, I feel my wings falter.

I feel a slight change, a slight shifting of weight. I feel a drip of warmth as it slides down my back, releasing feathers to be strewn behind me.

I look towards her face, searching for help in the blinding light, calling to her to just reach out for me.

In an instant I am falling, my wings melted and scattered in the sky around me.

I am plunging into the darkness of the water that she cannot penetrate.

I brace for the cold, for the crushing obscurity of not knowing her face.

I fall away from her.

And just as soon as I am falling, I am flying again, my body being lifted through the air by a concentrated hand of light.

I can feel her touch my skin as she pulls me closer and closer into her being.

I can hear her voice as she calls my name.

For the first time, I can see her face. Golden and worried and so encompassing.

I can feel her love as she pulls me to the safety of her warmth.

I see her eyes and I touch her cheek and I think of the precipice.

Water and fire.

Darkness and light.

Sorrow and love.

I close my eyes as I drift into her, shedding the last of the wax and the feather that brought me to my sun.
