The False Belief (Found Poem)

The problem was a strange stirring, a sense of dissatisfaction

Each suburban wife struggled it alone.

Lay beside her husband at night

The silent question- “Is this all”?

This mystique of feminine fulfillment became the cherished,

of contemporary American culture.

Kissing their husbands goodbye in front of the picture window,

smiling as they ran the new electric waxer.

Their only ambition was to be perfect housewives,

their only ambition, their only fight.

No thought for the unfeminine problems of the world outside the home.
