Far From Comfort

It's always been comfortable

Mom and Dad right there

Sister is right down the hall

On the bad night

Comfort was a few steps away

When in tears

Open arms where under the same roof

There were no worries

There was my family

My home

Suddenly I am hundreds of miles away

With a man that I thought would take care of me

Nothing is familiar

Everything is no longer comfortable

On the bad nights

I must push through it

When in tears

I had only my own arms to be held in

There was the worry of money

There was the worry of eating daily

There was the worry of being utterly alone

There was no one

This was not home

This is when I grew up for worse or for better

This took me from my comfort

This made me strong
