Far From The Playground

When I look back

I often remember the times when I played on the playground

When I climbed the monkey bars

When I slid down the slide over and over again

When I dug in the sand in search of treasure

And when I fell on woodchips

Sadly those days have passed as have all days and the days to come

I learned that lesson all throughout middleschool

Middleschool a time of growth for everyone

A time when our bodies mature

When our hormones sky rocket

When our minds shift from childish ideas to deeper more confusing ones

In this time we learn that the world is not just butterflies and rainbows.

We learn that to grow we need to let go

That we need to move on from the playground and look at the big field.

That we need to look at the tall grass

We need to look at the sticks

and the stones

To look at all of the things we couldn't see from the playground

It was a sad day when I went into the play equipment at Peter Piper Pizza and I realized I was too big

When I almost got stuck

When I felt cramped

And when I got in the way

I couldn't believe it at first and even now it's hard to believe

Cause it's easier to fall on sand then it is on dirt and rocks
