farewell depression

Depression

I know you all too well

Sticking by my side like glue

Ever since I was out of the womb

Faking a smile for all to see

How much pain I was actually in

Never knowing which day is your last

So you try to live like everyone else

You makes it hard to live

When you make everything about you

“Attention seeking” tendencies then come out to play

Scaring everyone and their mother away

Depression

Comes and goes

But you never know when

Like an uninvited guest at a birthday party

I didn’t ask for you

But now you’re here

Ready to take over my life

I wish you never came

But I wish you could take me away

Take me away from this pain and misery

Depression

Making your bed your new best friend

While tv is playing in the background

 Sadness is all you know

When happiness seems to be a myth

Given a prescription of pills to keep you quiet

You finally lays down and rests

Depression

A new day has dawned

And I, for one, missed the sun

A smile has come over me

And behind that smile is happiness

Depression

I know you’re still there

Living in my brain

But you’re quiet now

Not so scary after all

Depression

The only enemy I thought I had

Now I consider you a friend

A friend who needs a hug and unconditional love

Depression

I must go and live my life

And I know you’ll come and visit

But don’t stay too long

For I have a date with happiness

Turns out he wasn’t a myth

He was just standing behind you all along
