Fasting ...

Joel 2:12

An Appeal for Repentance

12 “Yet even now,” the Lord says,
“return to me with all your heart—
with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
Tear your hearts,
not just your garments!”

Fasting

Have I fasted, I don’t think so ... have I denied self basic food?

If I did would I discover ... a special taste only for good?

To know self has been described a blessing ... by the One, Who knows

To accept that without changing ... is like happiness that moans and groans

Basic truth is ignored by men ... in all the answers they seem to know

They think themselves among the wisest and to most problems prepared to go

Based on mind they have solutions ... formed through learning forced by self

Look at the world they are presenting ... mostly despair stacked on a shelf

Understanding comes through love ... for God and neighbor all

Without this only emptiness ... for world’s wisdom is doomed to fall
