Fate Denial

This is my heart's desire,

Yet my heart is in my throat.

It sets my soul on fire,

But sometimes fire chokes.

I fear the sun. I fear the light.

Anything that shows me off.

You know, my dear, that it feels right,

My conscience whispers, voice so soft.

But no, I can't accept my fate,

A burning star that hates its beam.

With fear beside me as my mate,

I know that nothing's as it seems.
