Father

It’s been a long day but unlike normal children I had no parent to talk to about it.

Mama’s doing life in a max prison, and daddy’s getting out in a year. They still write each other after all this time.

Daddy thinks when he gets out he’ll be able to hop back into my life as if he hadn’t been missing for the past 17 years.

I haven’t fully forgiven him yet.

For missing all those Christmases and birthdays I spent with other families that weren’t mine.

For missing when I lost my first tooth.

I needed daddy there to be my tooth fairy and make me feel like a princess, but yet he missed those days.

The sleepless nights, the teary eyes, when I fell off my bike

he wasn’t there to kiss it better he didn’t wipe my eyes.

He missed my plays, my chorus concerts, my dance recitals,

my parent teacher conferences and volleyball games. My little accomplishments he wasn’t there instead there’s so much pain.

From , slaps, and bruises, and hits from being abused and used like a puppet on a stick.

He says I’m still daddy’s little princess and his Babygirl, but I can’t be a princess without a daddy that’s a king In my world.

I went to the hospital several times, but daddy was behind bars paying for his crimes, so slowly I recovered on my own without that daddy of mine

Picnic dates, daddy daughter dances, walk me down the aisle those are things I used to crave when I was a child. Cap and and gown graduation head beneath the water. I am not your Babygirl I am not your daughter. I got baptized when I was 12 now Jesus is my father.
