Father
What makes a father a father?
Genetics? A face? Or a name?
Is it how he stands?
Or the shape of his hands?
Or whose picture he chooses to frame?
In my mind I have two fathers
The one who was there at my birth
Who taught me to cook
And loves a good book
The one who brought me to this Earth
And yet there is still a second
Someone who raised me as well
Who cares for my soul
Who taught me control
And carries me through my own hell
He loves me and cares for me deeply
And towards him I feel just the same
He taught me to love
That I was enough
And someday I’ll carry his name
He taught me that I have power
And that I should not be afraid
That instead of crying
I should be a lion
And it will be better some day
