the father i never had

I wish I had a father that didn't belong to the bottle but was truly mine,
Who gave to me security and laughter and was reliably kind,
One who asked how my day went and was interested in school,
Who took my heartaches to be his and called my bullies the fools,
I wish I had a father that was dependable in his love,
Not the half man half monster ruled by his vodka lust.
