To the father who always put us second,

To the father who always put us second,

I saw your marriage with my mother crash and burn

I watched you suffer heart break for years

Until you found someone you’d call your new forever

You’d gone through girlfriend after girlfriend

You’d gone through condo after condo, apartment after apartment

The only thing you ever had was us

And that’s where it all began, we used to always be first

But she was your forever

She was your high school sweetheart

You’d lost and found each other after all these years

You used to live down the street from us, dad

Now you live in a big city

In her big city

You loved playing guitar dad, but she hated it so you stopped

I know it broke your heart

But she was your forever

You popped the big question without our consent

We thought we meant more to you

You told us you wouldn’t marry for years, but here we are

We weren’t asked to be in the wedding

We were just guests

We cried not out of joy, but out of sadness

As we knew we had lost you for good

But she was your forever

Now sometimes you come to the suburbs maybe once a week for dinner

We discuss only day by day events

You don’t really know who we’ve grown to be

Your not really our dad anymore

But she was your forever

Love,

Your Disappointed Daughter
