Fathers

People say that from the day you are born,

You have an unconditional love from both of your parents.

What they don’t tell you is that the love they give you is not unconditional;

That love is sometimes only shown to you when you are the perfect child.

But you can’t be the perfect child all the time.

Soon your father the one who should always be there for you to love and protect you

Becomes the one person hurting you and making you believe you aren’t worth love.

What do you do when no matter how hard you try

You will never be good enough in his eyes?

His eyes the ones that are supposed to always watch over you with a caring look

Are now the eyes that haunt your every thought.

His voice the one that is supposed to be soft and gentle while speaking to you,

Becomes the one that pierces your ears with harsh, loud yells that you are good enough.

Him. Your father, the one who is supposed to always encourage you and pick you up when you fall,

Becomes the one who knocks you to the ground with his disappointment and then stands over you shaking his head in disapproval at the fact that you can’t even stand up right.

What do you do when your father refuses to be your dad?
