Fathers

There are those that are doting

There are those that are absent

Then there are those that are indifferent

For they don’t outright disown you

They leave it up to you to figure out your place in their lives

They don’t show any particular interest

Neither do they participate in your upkeep

They’re too cowardly to completely vanish

encouraging you to chase them instead

knowing very well their giant footsteps will not slow down for your infant ones

Consistently shaming you

Then so quick to claim you when doing so lengthens their egos

Befuddled by your gleam in spite of their indifference
