A father's Gift

To my child I gave you life that you never sought
I will probably give you things that you'll never want
The greatest gift I can ever give you is a promise
I promise to be there when you  need me
And to be there even when you don't
Just as I was there during your first breathe and your first tears
I promise to be your strength  to be your guide in the dark
I promise to be a father you can look up to and be proud of
I promise to be a father who protects you from things you'll one day never have to fear
I promise to love you and care
Even when I'm not there I  am as I promise to protect you as only a father can
I'll be there to chase away your first crush
I be there to walk you down the aisle
I be there as you birth your first child
Even when I'm long gone I be there watching over you protecting you as when you were first born
