Fathoms Below
The watery basin shone with the glittering
mirth of a thousand stars
Depths
unseen by day
drawn out by night’s gaiety
Ripples from the wind,
day’s blustering breath,
Utterly calmed -
silent and still,
reposing in starlight
While Moon,
cresting high - a celestial eye
regards the pool, its form deep and wide
Mirroring glorious moon rays
from the founts of the deep
There, seeming
fathoms below
The watery basin grins merrily
The thousand stars reflected now
on the slippery surface of
exposed stones
Their faces turned
at last
to the moon’s glory - the depths
that once danced upon their solid frames
Gone,
slipping away to dark recesses,
Far from the celestial glow,
to fathoms,
fathoms
below.
