Faults Waltz
I’ve noticed the stars, if you stare long enough
Will dance a celestial waltz
I’d never have noted their dizzying sway
If I hadn’t been under them, focused on faults
One, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one.
I sat and I stared and I waited for signs
And I heard the wind begin to hum
Like a flute through the trees, a melodious breeze
And my eyelashes fluttered, unwavering drums
One, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one.
I saw ghosts in the shadows that curtsied and bowed
As they became one with the sky
One offered his hand as they struck up the band
So I danced with the man in the daisy bowtie
One, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one.
I remember a woman, her dress made of wheat
And another with bracelets of light
And a young girl and boy brought such natural joy
That my faults were forgotten, tossed into the night
One, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one.
It was then the song ended, the whole world was still
As if it had been carved out of stone
And I knew of my worth in this spectral rebirth
I would never again face my faults on my own.
