The Faux Woman's Role
Faux. That’s what it has been all along.
Weak, Strong, Sweet, Wrong. Sheet over my eyes.
Won’t let me see the lies.
Want to deny, but I never defy.
You expect me to let you correct me?
Respect? No! Dignity of my own? No!
You just put on a show for all your friends
And that’s the end of it; Well, maybe your end…
I still lend a hand to my eyes
As tears come, I can’t say why.
Because I’m expected to be corrected, expected to deny!
But that’s enough. I said “That’s ENOUGH!”
I’ve been pushed and pulled and shoved, but never
truly loved
Never truly appreciated, but now’s my time
I can find my own life, my own rights
Right down to the fight of my life; The Suffrage.
Get enough leverage to cause severance from the kind
The kind that expects me to deny and never defy
Change the minds of those who created the lies
Say that my only strength is that I am weak
I am NOT meek!
To find the strength to be something more
than a doormat
“Can I hold your hat? Coat? Zip your pants
before you go?”
I don’t need this, that’s all I know
But that’s the way it is. That’s what it’s been.
All along.
Faux.
