Favorite Secret

Location

There are some secrets you have that unfold inside of you,

They cover all the cracks you shield inside from sight and light

And then there are secrets that are corrosive in their very nature

They gently pick away at your psyche

Until there’s a hole in your very soul that is

Too sensitive to touch with anything more than fleeting thoughts

You’ve carved out my soul to fit your figure perfectly.

Like candy rotting away at the teeth of children,

I know that I should abstain from you,

Except, your name is so sweet on my tongue.

When the harsh light of reality has scorched away my inner skin

You cover me like a sheet and promise me

A few blessed hours of cooling sanctuary.

This is why you’re my favorite secret.
