The Fawn


Amidst the woods I saw a tiny fawn With dewdrop eyes bright as the early dawn. She was velvet brown and speckled white As she lay basking in the sun's soft light. She gazed at me and I at her in awe. Then a slight movement of her ear and jaw, Soon made me hear the sounds of children near And away she darted as if in fear
