The Façade
Dearest friends of mine,
I cannot cry in your embrace,
For I have no more tears to shed,
Nor melancholy emotion on my face
He left in his sleep,
Is all they have to say,
So now we’re all alone,
We must find our own way
The depths of our sorrow,
The depths of the sea,
They both feel the same,
Especially to me
But like in those deep, freezing waters,
When submerged for a while,
The pressure crushes down on me,
I only offer a hollow smile
For my heart has turned to iron,
My tears are now the rain,
I fill myself with empty numbness,
So I will feel no pain
So pleasant I look,
And pleasant I remain,
For no other countenance,
I can yet retain
I force a farce laugh,
I smile and I speak,
But inside I feel broken,
Inside I feel weak.
