Fear

Fear

Is giving her the keys to her first car

watching her disappear down the road.

Fear is seeing the same model car crushed

with no possible survival

Fear is having the whole world stop

as you hear the banging drums in your chest

Fear is listening to her phone ring over and over

but only hearing the beep of the voicemail

Fear is being kicked in the gut,

wanting to rip out your heart

Fear is calling everyone she knows

but never getting the answer

Fear is getting a call from Unknown

listening to that solemn voice

Fear is hearing those few words

“I’m sorry”

Fear is not being able to move

to see the looks on everyone’s face

Fear is taking those small steps

towards the black box

Fear is hearing the sad whispers

not being able to see through the water

Fear is looking in her room

if everything will ever be okay

Fear is hearing your words

that aren’t words anymore

Fear is standing up again

with shaking hands

Fear is holding your breath

and everything else

Fear is a flower

that only blooms pain
