The fear of abandonment 

From one child to another 

From a mother to her child

That bond can never be broken

Unless she who leaves breaks it

Leaving the young may not phase some

But it will shatter that child’s world to smithereens

From the age a child starts understanding what love is

Is the age they will start to get hurt

The moment you walk out that door

Is the moment they realize that you’re not coming back 

Lying in the dark fighting the tears

The feeling that you’re the reason she left

As young a soul might be

They will feel pain as any other human being

The withering optimism in your heart is leaving you 

Every time you are told she’ll be back

Feels like a stab to the back

The sparkle in your eyes has faded

Replaced by a dark and stormy disposition 

Tired of the repetitive thoughts of her

Everything makes you think of her

Your heart fights the demons 

Bleeding, tired and hurt

Why me?

Your feeling of worth left you years ago when she did

The pleas do nothing but make the pain more fierce

The feeling of hurt and hatred

Fill your pain stricken heart

Wishing to forget her existence but to no avail

The love you had for her is battered and bloody
