Fear, Are you Afraid?

Fear. Dread. Anxiously I wait for the one to come in.

The one walks in. The one meets my eye, smiles - then abruptly frowns.

I can hardly ignore the one's behavior. So cold. So unlike the usual kindness.

The kindness that melts my insides and draws me in rapidly.

An uneventful evening. Chatter, bustle, sweaty palms. But the one stays away.

Why?

Although fearing that I will fall if the one speaks a word, I will faint, I approach.

The one notices me, offers me a seat. But I am frozen, dumb and lame at once.

The one stands up, the tense frow dissolving into that captivating smile that makes me sink inside.

But the smile breaks every fear. And suddenly - I am right there beside the one.

I have waited so long, and seeing the one hurts and helps. Comforts and confuses.

The one speaks. Why were you afraid?

I still am, I cautiously glance towards the one. I am afraid to lose love.

Fear should fear love, the one retorts. Love chases fear away.

So now instead of fearing the loss of what matters dearly, I ask.

Fear, are you afraid?
