Fear of the Future

A flower-eating, toad-chasing mermaid

"You are a little strange, but I'll take it

As long as you let those weird habits fade"

My simple way of life, I had to change it

Because doing what came naturally to me

It's just not cute anymore

It's always a new key

Always a new door

I'm always different from who I used to be

I'm always told I need to change more

You're physically mature, can you be mentally mature?

I suppose, but I don't understand what for

I understand what you mean, I'm just unsure

Because if I forget who I was before

I'll lose myself, my life will become a bore

The simplest things don't make me happy anymore

But it's part of the process is what I am told

Maybe I shouldn't get scared of getting old

I'll just try to keep myself from becoming cold

From giving up and hating this world

All the while trying to discover my role

Working hard towards my goals

All the while guarding the innocence of my soul

After all, I can't get it back once it's gone

It's not something that can be bought and sold
