The Fear of Letting Go

Once a week, every week,

I stood alone.

I felt meek, weak

and like a drone.

I tried and tried to let go

standing in front of that wretched microphone,

but with everyone's judging eyes upon me, I seemingly froze.

My heart would beat so rapidly I thought it would surely burst,

my head would pound so fiercely that I thought it was cursed.

My hands were shaky and sweaty as I held the mic,

my voice would sometimes waver as I tried to fight.

In the end, my voice became so clear

that everyone else looked at me as if I had just appeared.

It had finally happened, my fear took flight,

as I let go and sang joyfully into the mic that night.
