Fear ≠ Friends
My fear of making new friends,
intensified when I had to be transferred to a new school.
It had already taken me a long time to make the friends that I have now,
and leaving them behind was just not cool. It was just too soon.
The first day at this new school,
was full of anxiety, fear, and distrust.
I sat quietly at my desk, ignoring everyone,
and I looked at everyone with disgust.
But after months and months of this behavior, I couldn’t take it any longer,
because I knew I had a vibrant and fun personality.
I knew I had to rid myself of this fear if I didn’t want to be alone and scared,
so that I could find new friends who were similar to me.
I told myself that my fear of meeting new people, in a new place,
would no longer be my guide.
I know that I have a lot to give to others,
so there was no longer a reason to sit behind my fear and hide.
Finally, I found the courage,
to approach one of the girls in my calculus class.
I was struggling and needed help,
and this girl was smart and seemed to catch on to each concept very fast.
Shaking away my fear,
I asked her for help.
I introduced myself as Alexas and with a simple smile and a handshake,
she removed the fear that was hiding inside a protective shell.
She helped me until I understood calculus better,
and she introduced me to all of her friends.
Everybody was cool and laid back,
and she ended up becoming one of my very best friends.
Because of her help and her kindness to me,
I have formed solid relationships with people, who at first, I didn’t give a chance.
Simply because I feared they wouldn’t like me since I was the new girl,
but I made a mistake by judging them at first glance.
My circle of friends who get me is larger,
my confidence remains strong.
And now that the fear of meeting new people is gone,
my old friends and my new friends have all created a solid bond.
