February Speaks

I am NOT the SHORTEST month of the year

I am a celebration of a LONG, strong, colorful history

Where we dance, and cheer, and overcome adversity

We’ve had times of great sorrow but focus on times of elation

Like MLK’s speeches and Obamas inauguration

I am NOT the SHORTEST month of the year

Neither am I a slave, no Im far from that

Im an advocate who calls out society and states the facts

Im more than a color; black red green isn’t my name

You can call me equality because we’re all the same

I am NOT the SHORTEST month of the year

I am you and you are me

2^nd class citizen NOT synonymous with minority

I will not let the Inequality Show have a sequel

One day we can genuinely say we’re equal

I am NOT the SHORTEST month of the year

The “I have a dream” speech by MLK

That time when we DREAM needs to stop today

Those dreams become reality when we stand up in say

I will not tolerate discrimination, IT IS NOT OK!

I am NOT the SHORTEST month of the year

I am Three Sixty Five

I worked to build this country and kept it alive

Let’s put into action the struggles of Black History

So we can all dance & cheer & sing in victory
