This room, this “home”, my parents’ angry voices

Echo through the house and block out all extraneous noises

If Mom leaves, I will never come back

The abuse, the lies, the selfishness

I wish you could understand that being in a family requires SELFLESSNESS

I’m leaving because of the character you lack

Why have a family if you don’t want to take care of them?

Once upon a time, family was your most precious gem

You married her and adopted me

What will it take to make you see?

You’ve changed for the worst

You used to put our needs first

Me or money: which do you prefer?

Nevermind; I know the answer

Why else would my anger be so stirred?

Well guess what, I’m grown

Soon I’ll be on my own

I won’t need your precious money, I’ll be out of your hair

If you wanted a daughter, you’re kinda late

Because you won’t find me anywhere

I won’t tell you where I went because, for you, I’ve lost all care

You should’ve shown a lot more love and a bit less hate

Bye, now

You were never my teammate

Sometimes, you’d make me feel like I mattered, or like I have importance

But most others, I could tell those times are the lies of a serpent

Everything is about you

At least that’s how you act

When you find yourself alone, what will you do?

Your family always hides your obviously troubled past

What’s the truth?! When will we know who you really are?

My intuition says it will be too late

You say you’re fine, but everyone can tell you’re not

Someone who’s “fine” doesn’t express so much hate

I haven’t done anything wrong to you

My mother does nothing but love you

Her parents treat you like their own son

But yet, you still keep treating us like we don't matter

And I don't know which is sadder:

The fact that you think blood is what makes a family or how you continue to choose to be so hateful and angry and how you refuse to see the love around you that you keep rejecting and throwing back in our faces

This is why we stay in our own spaces

You refuse to find your own refuge, so you invade our happy places

Wrecking

Breaking

Quaking the spaces in our minds that only we go for some solitude, trying to break our fortitude

And you really expect to stay in our good graces?
