Female from the Dust

From jelly sandals to heels and stilettos
From giggles to bedroom sounds and echoes
I couldn't wait to grow up,
but little did I know that this adult world was so fucked up

I dreamt of accentuating my beauty with curved hips
and letting my words speak louder than my kisses,
if only I knew that they wanted more than just words from my lips
and that I wasn't worthy of a ring to become a Mrs.

I couldn't wait to become a woman
I opened my eyes to discover that meant becoming prey
in the eyes of those who crave pleasure and lust
When I ask why,
they tell me that's my price to pay
for being a female trying to rise from the dust.

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
