Feminism

Why do we need feminism?

A question people ask everyday.

A question, so simple, yet yielding so many answers.

Let me tell you this;

Feminism is for everyone.

Every minority,

Every gender,

Every race, sexuality, religion,

Every human.

Because everyone is human.

Feminism is not misandry.

Feminism is merely opposing misogyny.

Misandry- dislike of,

Contempt for,

Or ingrained prejudice against men.

Misogyny-dislike of,

Contempt for,

Or ingrained prejudice against women.

Only one word changed.

Two letters added.

‘W’ and ‘O’

Why do these two letters make such a difference?

We need feminism.

1 in 6 women have been the victim of an attempted,

Or completed rape.

1 in 33 men have been the victim of an attempted,

Or completed rape.

People say that feminists put down those male victims,

Those people haven’t met the right feminists yet.

People say that feminists aren’t doing enough for men,

But when you’re already on the highest place on the podium of life,

You can’t go up much further.

We need feminism.

I like to imagine a world without discrimination.

A feminist world where everyone is equal.

A world where people don’t make sudden assumptions about women.

A world where “Well, what were you wearing?”

Isn’t a question.

A world where women don’t have to walk faster at night,

Where no one has to be afraid.

And yes, I am concentrating on women because this is a women’s issue.

What man has gone up to a court and been asked “Well, what were you wearing?”

However men have been told they should’ve enjoyed it.

And who stood up for them?

Feminists.

I am tired of misogynists

Only discussing male victims

To convince women “It’s not that bad.”

Male victims should be their own category,

Male victims should be an issue in themselves.

I am tired of using some victims to argue with other survivors.

I am tired of victim blame.

We need feminism.

We will not stand down,

We will keep fighting.

We will yell,

Scream to make our voices heard.

So stand up for what you believe in,

And make your voice heard.
