Feminism

I can’t live without feminism,

Feminism,

because it powers the ideology of organizations like Girls Who Code

Without which I likely wouldn’t have studied Computer Science

Feminism

Because only 18% of Computer Science graduates are female; in 1984 it was 37%

Feminism, the backbone of the Violence Against Women Act, which reduced intimate partner violence by 67% from 1993 to 2010

Feminism, because the UN, whose measures to reduce violence against women have achieved notable success, still reports that 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence

Feminism, because, thanks to it, in my state I am protected from discrimination based on my gender identity or sexual orientation

Feminism, because I can only say the same of 16 other states, out of the 50 in my country

Feminism, because it exists for the benefits of all but especially women and marginalized people—people of color and the LGBT+ community

Feminism, because it supports the Therapeutic Fraud Act, which would ban gay conversion therapy

Feminism, because that bill still hasn’t passed

Feminism, because it taught me there are more ways to experience gender than just “male” or “female”

Feminism, because we’ve come far,

Feminism, because we still have a ways to go
