Fences

My heart is shielded by a fence of suspicion.
Wood?
        Stone?
                Wire?
                        Fear?
                               Anxiety?
It matters not what it’s made of, just what it does.
A shield of protection. Keeping me safe from the pain fighting to get through.
A bullet proof vest stopping the never ending ammunition of predators searching for a way to unleash an unguarded me.

People try to break through,
    to climb,
              to dig,
but I always stop their advances.

How much longer can I hold them back?
If they could penetrate my safeguard, would I still be safe?
Would my heart remain protected?
Would it even matter?
Do I even need this armor?
Can someone actually break what’s already broken?
