Fever Dreams
Long, Long ago
Far, Far away,
There a galaxy long forgotten
overrun with dreams led astray
begins to heal the doubt
It’s always been my self assigned job
to imagine what hasn’t been
I’ve seen stars that fingers brush
and hollowed out a heart with a beating tongue
swallowed the bottom of the sea
and flited around these dreams
I’ve never begun to imagine
what some lips taste like
or how they might spend our mornings
Because what I imagine
never comes quite true
Especially the more perfect
each sight becomes with you
But lend me a hand
Send me your gaze
quirk up your ears
and saw with your teeth
I’ll show you a sight never seen before
not even in dreams
If only you’ll stay with me
It’s okay if you won’t
Just remember these fever dreams
as a spot of warmth
right on your aching heart
Hurting means you care
but it can ease if I
If I shoulder enough
