field of broken peace

The tall strands of grass barely reach my knees

As they sway quietly in the wind.

Decorated in colors of vibrant greens and yellows

Each piece of course grass rustles past my legs

Putting my troubled mind to ease, feeling at peace.

But as my bare feet stumble through the moist soft dirt

They strike a cold hard object with a clang

Sending a glass bottle skittering away from my foot

Only to collide with another.

Pulling my mind from a place of nature and serenity,

To see the rest of the valley once beautiful

And filled with energy

Now an empty field of weeds and trash

Void of the abundant life it used to hold.
