Field Trip Blues

"Well it's only 10 dollars," She would sarcasticly say.

I walked home wondering if the windows would be open

Or a neon note would be on the door

For if they were I knew the electircty was off or it was time to move

She said it was only 10 dollars.

Yet, when I sat down to eat I saw there was nothing there

I was thankful I ate lunch at school because that was my last meal

But..It's only 10 dollars

As I washed my clothes in the sink

And hung my jeans to dry for the next day

I wondered....

Would my mom really have 10 dollars to give me for the trip..?

Nonetheless, It is only 10 dollars.
