Fifty-Two

Fifty-two cards between the Ace of Spades and Suicide Kings— From the Jack of Hearts to the stoic Queens. Fifty-two white keys dance ‘cross the piano’s face; Like ivory teeth, woven through maple with pearly lace. Fifty-two weeks are the essence of a year, Blown out like candles—and renewed in Monday’s tears. Fifty-two—2,000 miles long, but a hundredth by name— Splices Northwest and Southeast; with the residual untamed. Fifty-two is simple and meaningless—an advocate for intricacy. Fifty-two is just another number, stashed between 51 and 53.(poems go here)
