Fighting Words
"Fighting Words"
She was small and she was quite
But her hand was never silent.
Writing powerful words with pen to paper
Strong but never violent.
Introduced by her father
In combat so far away.
She wrote to him and her wrote to her
Almost everyday.
Poetry served as
Her refuge to escape
To the thoughts that she loved
From the images she hate.
From signing the constitution
To printing a name,
The ink made a difference
She wanted hers to do the same.
She was small and she was quite
But her hand was never silent.
Writing powerful words with pen to paper
Strong but never violent.
A tray of white innocence
Is what the paper revealed
But was always referred distinctly to
As a battlefield.
Every line that was written
And loop that was traced
Showed the passion in her words
And with the emotions she embraced.
She camouflaged her paper
In the blackened blood of her ink
As she wrote and wrote and wrote
Her words of artillery.
She was small and she was quite
But her hand was never silent.
Writing powerful words with pen to paper
Strong but never violent.
She wrote never lifting her pen
For she never stopped till she was done.
Writing was her way of speaking up
She said speaking for someone.
The field showed colors of black a white
But the bolder hues lied within.
She allowed her words to be louder than ever
From the beginning to the end.
Again she stood victorious
Like a soldier after war.
She continues to write today
For things worth fighting for.
She was small and she was quite
But her hand was never silent.
Writing powerful words with pen to paper
Strong but never violent.
