Figuring It Out
I haven’t really figured love out yet.
I’ve been told it’s a spark.
I’m told “you should go with the flow.”
But my mind can’t wrap around the idea,
The idea of both fire and water existing as one.
I haven’t really figured love out yet.
My friends tell me it’s like living in a fairytale.
My siblings tell me it’s like a never-ending sleepover.
But my mind can’t wrap around the idea,
The idea of both dreams and reality existing as one.
I’m working on love now.
Strangers tell me to love myself first.
Counselors tell me to love someone is to put them first.
My mind struggles with the idea,
The idea that to love is to love myself and someone else.
I think I’m in love now.
I haven’t listened to anyone recently.
All I’ve read is the light behind your eyes.
My mind struggles with the idea,
The idea that love isn’t the same for everyone.
I think I’ve figured love out now.
Love is a process.
Love just happens.
My mind struggles with the idea,
The idea that being in love is okay.
