Filter Free Me
Darker, contrast, brighter, hue
How long do you take editing,
In effort for people to “like” you?
I stare at the screen,
Critique the little things.
Am I tan enough,
Pretty enough,
Do my eyes look blue?
I post for praise
For others to know my name
To compliment me
To say “you’re so great”
But hours later
As the likes roll in
I sit and I wonder:
Is this all there is?
Is this the feeling I live for,
What defines who I am?
If it is, then how disappointing
These people aren’t even “liking” who I
REALLY am.
What is truly a compliment?
To hear those who know me
To call me their friend
When I think about the big picture,
It’s so much more than a little square.
I don’t want to die just knowing I looked good,
I want to die knowing I made someone ‘s life better
That I was an unconditional friend
So I have realized,
I don’t need a filter to love others, I can just be who I am.
