Filters For Esteem

She's Intelligent

She's Smart

She's Bright

She just has to find the right light

The right filter

The right angle

Her self-esteem dangles

within an image on her cell phone screen

She wants to appear perfect it seems

like those girls on tv

magazines and music videos

like those plastic barbie girls

who's real features they won't show

She's obsessed with fantasy

Altering herself in pictures for the world to see

The right angle

The right filter

The right light

Why can't she see that her future is bright?

That she's intelligent

That she's smart

That her brain is the true work of art

Not her face that she filters for esteem

True beauty can't be shown on a cell phone screen.
