Finally Looking Up
I woke up this morning
My eyes swollen from crying myself to sleep
Why didn't I walk up the hill
Knock on the dark, lonely door
My thoughts rushed in
Hands shook like they were freezing
Head pounding, I walked away
Today is a new day
So I walked outside
In the rain
Back to the dunes
I went up to the door and knocked
Of course, no one answered
I sighed but slipped my letter under the door
'To whoever lives lonely up here,
Hi. I live lonely too.
I know that you are lonely because you're alone,
But I am lonely and surrounded by people
So please, pay a visit at your own time. At least write back.'
I didn't sign it
I didn't leave an address
But I walked away hoping
I never went back home
Eventually, one massive castle door opened
And I saw a ghost white face inside
Beckoned me in with a single word and a half smile
"Hi."
