Finally Myself

I spent too much time trying to be

all the things people wanted from me.

I tried and I tried,

but there was simply no way

for one person to be so many things.

I did not belong, and I was okay

until people tried to recreate me.

They all tried to change me, to shape me

to be the person they thought I should be.

It was too much, it sent me down

into a darkness I'm only now escaping.

I'm finally learning

that just me is enough,

and no one has the right to change me.

There's nothing wrong with not fitting in,

I'm too big for that box.

I'm many things,

but untrue to myself

is something that I am not.
